Meet Kavya, a 13-year-old, oldest amongst her three sisters. They are from Karnataka. They lived in the Calangute slums with their mother and father staying in a hut.
Kavya’s story is one of the unguaranteed hope as her father abandoned them at an early age resorted to begging. In the face of abandonment and abuse early in life, millions of children are found living on the streets of India every year. Their mother is suffering from deafness and the financial instability made their lives harder. School and education were completely out of question.
These four siblings developed bad habits being in slums. It was when the pandemic hit, El Shaddai initiated a feeding program in the slums of Goa and on the street. At one of these sessions, our outreach workers came across these four sisters and enrolled them in the slum school, one of the initiatives of El Shaddai.
The outreach workers were convinced that Kavya and her three sisters wanted to change their life, education was essential, and was finally enrolled at one of the homes of El Shaddai.
Kavya now has hope as she and her sisters are sheltered and secured in our homes. Her mother is being provided much needed help. Kavya can run, play, and learn about her world in school. She finally has the chance that every child deserves the opportunity to learn.
EL Shaddai provides aid to the education of street children. Help children like Kavya achieve their dreams.
