A special Manava Shrestha award was presented to our founder Matthew Kurian in recognition of his charitable work by Deepika, the first newspaper in Kerala.
Mathew Kurian, whose life was covered in alcohol and drugs, has turned into transforming the lives of many in different parts of India today. Attempts to transform people in drug abuse started in 1993 by Mathew Kurian who began to give education to children in a tribal colony in Karnataka. Slowly Mathew Kurian was becoming a social worker in Goa and Karnataka. In 1997, he met Anita who hails from England and along with her, he started El Shaddai charitable trust. This trust has become a mark of charity today.
After 28 years of the inception of the El Shaddai charitable trust, it is the resort for hundreds of children, orphans, men and women who are left in the streets. More than 18000 children were brought back to their lives by El Shaddai and 82000 women could be empowered. El Shaddai could give informal education to more than 2, 26,000 children. Apart from all these, the trust could give food around 20 lakhs till today and every day almost 1000 are fed by El Shaddai in different cities.
Mathew married Julia in 1994 and she lend a hand in leading the organization along with Mathew. Their children are Tasha, Tahan AND Tiarra. It is the hard work commitment and willpower of Mathew that made El Shaddai a renowned charity organization today in Goa. Mathew Kurian the founder of El Shaddai charitable trust, is deserved to get the Deepika Maanava award in 2023.
