Nick Stening – Walking for Children

Starting on July 30th 2019, Nick walked ten marathons in 8 days and 13 hours with a 15kg rucksack containing his camping gear and some food supplies. Over the course of his walk, he ascended 36,647 feet – 8,000ft higher than Everest.

Nick is 57 a Carpenter Tutor of people who are in drug/alcohol rehabilitation and for teenagers who have behaviour and learning difficulties.

Nick had planned to walk the 268 miles in ten days. However, he decided to walk a little extra each day and therefore completed the walk on the 9th day. With his tent on his back and no accommodation booked he wild camped at the end of most days.

Nick says:
“I am dedicating my walk to Verna House, an El Shaddai children’s home in Goa. The 40 children there were homeless but now receive full time care and when the time is right the number of children will double. Because Verna House was converted from a dwelling there are no safe recreation areas for the children to use. The children love playing cricket and would benefit hugely if a safe area could be provided. Providing money for this provision is my aim.”
