GIFT A GOAT
OR WELL

GET TO THE HEART OF POVERTY

The economy of the villages is fully dependent on agriculture. This in turn depends on the annual rainfall. With global warming and drastic climatic changes, rainfall has become unpredictable. This adversely affects agricultural outputs – the very sustenance of the community. Digging bore-wells will provide them with alternative sources of water to carry their farming. This will not only improve the economy of the community but also prevent them from migrating to the cities in hopes of better prospects.

GIFT A GOAT

By giving families in Karnataka and Maharashtra a pair of goats, chickens or sheep, they have fresh milk, manure for better crops, meat to eat and baby goats to sell. Many families have benefited from receiving a pair of goats and are now able to send their children to school…

Current urgent needs in our homes and projects

El Shaddai has provided a source of life giving water to families at risk from water scarcity. This year we have been able to sink two wells while the third is in progress. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our sponsors who generously donated towards these well.

Our first in Malwadi, sunk in 2013 in ther Malwadi area of Hupari village, Kolhapur, Maharashtra provides fresh good quality drinking water for more than 100 households. This well was sunk in the rainy season which took extra time to fix the motor. The villagers expressed their gratitude to the loving patel family from Saroda, Gujarat who sponsored the bore well and also to El Shaddai for providing this for their community. This area had waited years to have clean drinking water.

A second well was sunk in Karwar, Karnataka in March 2014. It was donated by “The good News gospel church and amazing charity shop” through Pastor Michael Whittle. The selected area for the well is surrounded by approximately 1400 houses with a population on 20,000 and had very limited water sources.

Our third well, was sponsored by the students of Realschule Kissleg through Hoffnung Kindheit – El Shaddai Germany is to be sunk in Dhumakwadi Village in Khed, Maharashtra. This area has water scarcity.

The bore wells we have sunk provide fresh for hundreds of poor people. This year we have successfully sunk 7 bore wells; two in the Kholapur districts of Maharashtra and five in the Mundgod and Haveri districts of Karnataka. We are very grateful to our generous sponsors who have donated towards our bore well project.

By giving families in Karnataka and Maharashtra a pair of goats they have fresh milk, manure for better crops, meat to eat and baby goats to sell. Many families have benefitted from receiving a pair of goats through the ‘Gift a goat’ Project.

Our El Shaddai Germany conducted online-fundraising to be able to distribute goats and sheep to poor farmers in Mundgod. In February, 2015 our German Coordinator, Andi Kolb, together with Kirsten hanser who helped establish El Shaddai in Germany, visited our Mundgod project. They spent time with the farmers and distributed sheep to the. We are very grateful to all our sponsors who have supported this project.
