The monsoon season is drawing to a close and the Sun Shines more often now

ASHA DEEP, PANAJI.

10ubide_india001051.jpgThe Shelter during September, had a daily attendance of 40 to 45 children. A total of 84 children visited the Shelter and 66 of these children attend formal school and are the pride of the staff of the Shelter. These children are also an example in their community which attracts other children to our Shelter. This month however the attendance reduced as the children and their folks went to their own villages for the Ganesh festival. Yeshu Killedar has adjusted well at Montfort and is enjoying his training in Automobile Mechanics and visited the Shelter during the Ganesh holidays.

The children enjoyed a week on holidays. They spent their days attending non formal classes at AD and with indoor and outdoor games. Children were also involved in colouring, drawing, puzzles, craft work etc. An outing to Miramar beach was organised which they enjoyed. The ‘Child of the Month’ prize for best behaviour and effort in studies was awarded to Umesh Naik..

The migrant labourors have started returning to Goa in anticipation of the tourist season, which starts in October. Many of them who had gone to their homes in other states have returned too and so the Fieldwork and outreach work for our team has increased. The Shelter is making a positive difference in the lives of many children and their parents.

We are grateful to all these who have contributed in their own special way to put a smile on the faces of the AD children; some with their time and others with their generosity. Our heartfelt thanks especially to Ms Kirti Gaonkar, Ms Sara Gonsalves, Ms. Nita, Mr Deepak Grover, Mr Sanjay Sardesai and Legion of Mary (a group of friends) who kindly donated snacks and clothes for the children and really made their world a brighter place with their love. All these go a long way in ensuring these less fortunate children get a near normal childhood and it is our earnest endevour to see that they get the best.

Mrs Rajani Verenkar from Directorate of Women and Child Development visited and discussed our functioning. De- worming medicine was given to all the children, while Three children were treated for fever and are recuperating

The monsoon season is drawing to a close and the Sun Shines more often now. It is our wish and prayer that Asha Deep will reach out to all the children in distress and will illuminate every child. We have a lot of activities lined up for the month of October as we want to give them the best.
