LITTLE ACORNS, CALANGUTE.

little-acorns.jpgAugust kept the Shelter engaged with the number of children and visitors rising steadily. The school going children are spreading awareness of the shelter and so also are the locals. This month we were able to attend to nearly 1833 children. Everyday 60 to 70 children attended for food, shelter and basic medical attention.

On the occasion of ‘Independence Day’, sweets were distributed to the children. Our Volunteer, Maxina & her mother Rachel visited the shelter and spent time with the children. They also visited the slums and were introduced to Ruksana (a paralytic child) and Teherien  Banu (a blind child).

A visitor, Josephine Roberts visited the shelter and was impressed by the work in brightening the future of the underprivileged street children. We appreciate Mrs. Zaphia D’silva & her husband for visiting and generously donating toys, baby cradle and clothes to the children. Ms Abigail Athaide acompanied by Mario, visited the shelter and Mario briefed her on the functioning of the Shelter. Children presented ‘Poem and Rhymes’ for the visitors and gifted a beautiful “Thank You” card to them.

Laxman (56) visited Montfort to collect the certificate on completion of chef training. He also attended an interview at the Cidade-de-Goa for Chef appointment. Krishna Raju (582) is moved to LA for further studies in Don Bosco School and is doing well.

Our Children attending the Don Bosco School have answered their first term examination and are awaiting results. The Staff in the Shelter have devoted a lot of time in helping these children with their lessons, as we desire them to excel in their studies.

Our field workers visited the slums regularly for basic education, creative arts and games etc. An average of 10 children attended the slum school daily.

The number of children daily is increasing and Our motto is to make the Shelter a safe haven to these  Destitutes  where they are always welcome!
