“Various activities at Shanti Niketan School kept the staff and children engaged during the entire Month of August.”
The month of August has been a month of intense activities and the school witnessed interesting events. Although it was raining heavily and wet, the staff of the school managed to conduct all the programmes as planned for the month. Almost all the children were involved in the activities and it is a joy to see the excitement and the interest generated from simple activities among the children. Various competitions marked the beginning of the month and Students were busy preparing one after the other; a time when they were getting prepared for short vacations too!
An Elocution competition was organised and the performance was based on the criteria of the speaker’s enthusiasm, delivery, strategies, informative and logical content and body language. Jupiter house was the overall winner with 75 points followed by Neptune house with 70 points and Saturn with 60 points. Mars house was placed fourth with 50 points.
The Children were also engaged in creative activities for an “Egg-Shell display”
competition. Students from each class worked hard to collect Egg shells and with respective class teacher’s assistance, the students prepared various items on display, depicting the theme “We are all in this together”.
The ultimate winners were Grade VI and Grade I class. Grade VI won the prize in the senior category for displaying the theme of unity, with coloured eggshells placed on the handcrafted map of India.
Grade I won the prize in the lower section for beautifully decorating giant grapes out of the coloured eggshells. Respective class students were given merit points and chocolates, for their creativity. The children enjoy this activity tremendously.
The school also conducted a ‘Speech Competition’ for the students of higher classes, from Grade III to Grade VII. Students selected a story or a thought from the Bible; based on responsibility. Jupiter & Saturn house were the joint winners with 45 points each. Neptune house secured 3rd place with 40 points and & Mars house was placed fourth with 25 points. A workshop was conducted for teachers focusing on ‘The Use of positive methods for disciplining’ students. Around 14 Teachers participated in the workshop
A ‘Class Day’ for Nursery and KG class was held at the School. Students performed solo dances, action songs, solo acting and a group play. The KG class students presented a poem on good manners while the young artists enacted plays showing how community helpers are useful to the society, a group dance was also performed and a poem was recited with dancing and swinging. The lower class students from nursery to grade II, with their respective class teachers were present along-with the school office staff. The entire event was enjoyed by one and all. The children had a great time.
Salima (146) & Priyanshi (91) took part in a ‘Card Design’ competition at the SFX High School, Siolim and were awarded special certificates by the school.
A Table Tennis tournament was conducted for senior and junior sections. In the senior category Pamma (68) & Hanumanta (367) from Saturn house were the winners. In the junior category Sharukh (314) & Yeshu (501) from Mars house were declared winners. A batch of 8 students are learning to strum the guitar under the guidance of their music teacher Mr Keegan Dsouza
Our volunteers, Rachel and Maxina Erangey shared their time and talent in assisting the staff and the children. They taught creative ideas to the smaller children.
Ms Julia Kurian and Mary Lopez visited the Philippines to attend a workshop and study the functioning of ACE schools. They returned with updated information, and begun to implement the same in our school.
The last week of August saw the school close down for the ‘Ganesh vacation’. Most of the children have left for their homes for the festival. The school will be reopening on the 8th of September for the next term.
The month of September promises to be a greater month as well with various contests lined up in Reading competition, Gift shop, Teacher’s day, First Term Review, Class day for Grade I – Grade III, Story telling (Nursery & KG), Math Quiz, Creative Writing and many more… including plans by the Italian Theatro Per Caso for ‘Fantasia’ theatre programme.
