STEPPING STONES, MARGAO

The month of July saw a few changes in the Shelter. Large number of children visits the Shelter looking for the basic necessities of life and once here they find more than that….childhood. pict0742.JPGOur fieldworkers, staff and volunteers are always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in every way possible. Health, hygiene and safety of the children have been given high priority. There has been an increase in the number of school children who have been attending the shelter. Tuitions and other educational assistance is being provided to all.

Mr. David joined the shelter and has been assisting in the non formal education, tuitions to children and also contributing towards field work while relieving our field worker Amit, transferred to Asha Deep (Panaji). The field workers organised games and other activities in the slums where children were assisted with their studies. Medical help was provided in the slums while need for cleanliness and hygiene stressed. They also visited Birla (Vasco) and Baina slums.

Santosh whose mother had died and father who abandoned him, has been admitted at the shelter and also been admitted in the School. Sunil and Sunita at the night shelter has been taken by their father after arranging for accommodation in Margao. They continue to come visiting in the day.

One of our regular friends and well wisher Mavis, visits the shelter and spends time with the children, playing and having a great time. Mr. Bhambra an NRI from UK also visited the shelter on two occasions.

We hope to be of assistance not only at Margao but also to the neighbouring villages, construction sites, and other areas. We look forward to reach out to as many children as possible. We expect that in the coming months the number of children will increase and that Stepping Stones will be a place where every Child in need or at risk will come to experience love and Security.
