LITTLE ACORNS, CALANGUTE.

pict0660.JPG“Little Acorns”, Our Day Care and Night Shelter, in Calangute the most famous Goan beach, has little respite during the monsoon season or the “slow” season. Inspite of the rains coming down in torrents, we at Little Acorns have had a very fruitful month.

Hot meals, shelter and medical attention was given to about 1895 children. Everyday around 65 to 75 children came to the Shelter and the number is ever increasing. On an average about 60-65 children go to school from the Shelter. These children had never seen a classroom and perhaps never would have, if it wasn’t for the hard work and dedication of the staff of Little Acorns. We are hoping for 100 a day and almost all would go to school. Family profiles are being made with a view to help them get employment and medical attention.

The staff of the Shelter are involved in turning around the lives of the street children for a better future. The month of July saw the staff of Little Acorns in the slums of Calangute a lot, as the slum work has been expanded to reach out to many more children. Our fieldworkers, Dhanush and Shankar visit the slums and work efficiently in bringing awareness.

pict0978.JPGThe greatest joy is when we see these underprevilaged children enjoying themselves, and having a childhood with happy memories. We at Little Acorns are focused on that smile….one on each child’s face. The month of August will be an eventful month which we look forward to with many more children approaching for love and attention.
