ASHA DEEP: PANAJI

image037.jpgASHA DEEP (“Hope and Light”: Hindi), our underprivileged children have a hope for the future and that’s what we at “El Shaddai” are striving for bringing Light into their lives and to reach out to as many, and we are extremely satisfied with those already Shinning in Life.

We are also very happy to announce that the number of children visiting the Shelters this month has increased. On an average we had 50-60 children visiting per day. Five more children were admitted to school this month in addition to the eleven last month. These are the children who are either working, distressed, repatriated and those who live in high risk environment. It’s a challenge to be involved so deeply in the lives of these children, their families/guardians, employers, teachers, doctors, and their communities. It is indeed rewarding to see the change that ‘Asha Deep’ has made in the lives of these children. As it is important for them to receive this help as they are the first generation learners in their families; besides the conditions they live in make it almost impossible for them to study at home.

Yeshu Killedar from Victory House who has been staying at the shelter for a month will shortly be enrolled into the Montfort Vocational Training Institute. Our other child, Raghu Killedar is presently working as a trainee, with The Marriott Resort, Panjim.

We are indeed very proud of our shelter boy, Akash Lamani who won the title ‘The Child of the Month’.

A group of Teenagers headed by Ms Shailu Sharma visited the Shelter and interacted with the children, taking up lessons, playing games, singing songs etc. They also served children snacks and donated stationery. A press note with a photograph note was released by the Local News paper.

Amit and Lokesh are totally dedicated in carrying out their fieldwork. Their efforts are indeed praiseworthy.

This month was specified as a ‘Health Month’ at Asha Deep. We detected few cases of Malaria and had a staff from the Panjim Health Centre test all the children, including tests done at the Goa Medical College for HIV/AIDS.

July has been a very good one for us! We are grateful to Mrs. Kirti Gaonkar for her continued support to the Shelter. We are glad to be able to help so many children and hope to make Asha Deep a safe Haven for every child in and around Panjim, denied childhood.
