Number of children attending goes down due to summer vacation
Many of the regular children visiting Stepping Stones have left for their native places along with their families for summer vacations. Due to which the number of children visiting our Shelter this month has declined.
Kishore Kumar visited our shelter and interacted with the children as a part of his research on the migrant children. Few visitors came and spent time with children, teaching, playing and having a great time. Ms. Tanuja from Art of Living India Foundation conducted a five day (2 hr) programme, which helped the children to handle their emotions, different breathing exercises, etc. Couple of lively games, educative interactions were conducted which enabled the children to interact and participate in the whole process very positively. On the medical side, Floyd, is being treated for ear ailment, Laxmi is also being treated for swelling near the ear. Dr.V.B.Hegde from Art of Living Foundation also had a general check up done for our children.
Voluntary UK coordinators Ann and Richard Morris visited the shelter and spent their precious time with the children. Some of the children have their eyes set on moving on to the homes, admission to schools etc. About 6 children from the shelter were interviewed by Pastor Matthew for seeking admission to the homes.
Christopher the Shelter Manager also attended a two day seminar on “Child protection mechanisms.”
Routine cooking, cleaning, field work, non formal education, and other office and administrative works were carried out effectively during the month.
The month of June is going to be busy. Almost all the children will return and start classes in schools. There will also be a lot of awareness that has to be spread among the slum dwellers regarding cleanliness and precautions during the monsoon season. More and more children are going to come to the Shelter for food and medicines. We are all looking forward to helping as many children as possible. We have a desire in our hearts and a clear vision to reach out to the less unfortunate children of our society with the love of God.
