The children and staff had a great time at the annual school picnic to Dudhsagar
The school as always had a busy and productive month. Various activities took place as planned and students as well as teachers had a great month. Numerous activities, curricular as well as extra curricular kept the teachers and students busy. So many visitors also came to see first hand the type of individualistic education that is imparted to the students here.
The Treasury programme is in full cry at the school. This is one attractive project where every student gains something. A set of books are given to children by Bookworm Library in Panaji and after a period of 45 days they are taken back and a fresh lot is provided. Students come and check the books given and take them and read them and then explain the books and its content. This way every book is read and understood. This improves the vocabulary and also the prowess of English language. It is nice to see the enthusiasm of students when the books are delivered.
The students, teachers and staff went on the annual school picnic on 17th March. It was a red letter day and everyone was eagerly waiting for it since its announcement. It was cancelled once due to unavoidable circumstances. This year the picnic was at Dudhsagar Waterfalls. Dudh means milk as the water is the colour of milk as it cascades and falls into the river. Our children had to trek to the venue from where the vehicles were parked. They enjoyed every minute of it as they had to cross small rivulets and wood bridges and also go through the jungle where once in a while the cry of a wild animal or foul could be heard. The children swam in the crystal clear water, enjoyed a tasty lunched packed specially for the picnic and rested in the shade of the trees before starting back for home. It was a picnic all will remember for a long time to come.
Some teachers attended the promotional conference of Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) including the Director of the school, Ms. Julia Matthew. They found it so good that in the coming academic year the Shanti Niketan School is going to start a class in A.C.E. A training workshop from the 7th to the 11th of April is scheduled at Shanti Niketan School. Many delegates from other states of India have already booked their place for this training. Let us hope A.C.E. flourishes in India.
Final examinations began on 27th March and will continue till 3rd April. School will remain closed for the summer vacation which begins on 4th. However, children answering Board examination will continue to be coached and will attend classes. A farewell programme for these students is also planned. Honour roll day is also set to be held on 3rd. The groups which were formed at the beginning of the scholastic year have done very well. Jupiter stood first with 155 points followed by Saturn gaining 135 points. Mars with 115 points and Neptune with 95 points came in third and fourth respectively. The outstanding students of the year were Suryakant, Sudha, Stella, Rebecca, Sharu, Saku, Kiran, Raju, Mallesh, Ashok, Nagappa and Priya. Congratulation to all of them and well done.
Though the school will remain closed for vacations there are activities scheduled. A.C.E. workshop will take place from 7th to 11th. Results will be declared on 15th which also is the open day where parents and guardians will come and take the progress report. Another year comes to a close and we thank each and every one who visited and assisted us. We thank sponsors, volunteers and well-wishers. We thank the students and the teachers. We thank God for his Grace and kindness.
