Rainbow House and House of Kathleen celebrate a joint party
February was a sort of cool month. The weather was really a surprise. It was very cold and the general opinion was that this was the coldest year in a long time. It was also a month where the House received many many visitors, sponsors and well wishers. So many of them have been a blessing to us, teaching the children craft and art work. Many also donated towards the needs of the Home and we thank them.
This month began with our dear Ervani saying good bye to her friends and Home. She has been with us for more than 6 years and we have seen her flowering into a lovely teenager. She had to go back to her own home to look after and take care of her sick mother. We felt sad when she left but also felt proud that she has grown into an able and responsible individual who now has the confidence to care for her mother. She will continue her studies from home. A meeting was called at RH by Johnny where the entire team conducting the beach programme met and discussed various issues. Every Home In-Charge was present. It was a fruitful time for all. James came with volunteers who have helped us at RH over the month.
Jackie Barker and Gwen Cox gave Rainbow and Kathleen Houses a fabulous party. The staff of the two Homes got together and planned the event and then on the 22nd we all had a joint party at RH. Many of their friends also came. The party started at 6:30 pm and we did not know how three hours went by. Children had a great time. We thank Jackie and Gwen and all their friends for giving us a very special evening.
The health of the children was a mixed bag this time. We had a few girls who had to be referred to hospitals for further treatment and others who will be treated during the summer vacations. Nonetheless overall the children enjoyed good health during this month. We thank Lucracia the In-Charge of Kathleen Home for all the help she extended by ferrying our girls to the doctors and hospitals. Laxmi 70 is very happy as she is finally getting braces for her teeth. Saroja had a consultation with a neurosurgeon who gave her a clean bill of health. Sakku and Laxmi witness surgery along with Anitamother. It has impacted them in a big way.
It would be difficult to name every visitor who came to our Home this month. Many sponsors came and spent time with their ‘Children’ and brought many gifts and presents for them. Children received sweets, clothes, candies, chocolates stationery and sports items. One visitor donated 50 kilos of rice while another gave photo frames for each girl from the Rainbow’s End Cottage. Salomi’s sponsors came along with their friends and a big chocolate cake and celebrated Salomi’s birthday at Rainbow House. Others who came as visitors have shown a great interest in volunteering with us in our work. Rob and Anita Penell donated a DVD player for girls at Rainbow’s End Cottage.
The coming month will be a bit different. Children are getting busy with their studies and are determined to do well. The career guidance camp they attended has also helped them a lot. The second term examination has just concluded and the girls are already studying for the final one. We pray that they will do well in their studies.
