Everything from study tours to colour days to competitions to farewell programmes
The school has had an eventful month. Various activities kept students, teachers and volunteers on their toes. Some activities even took children and teachers out on day tours. The month ended with the second term examination.
At the top of the month the Nursery children went on a day tour of the children’s park at Campal. They were accompanied by the class teachers and senior teacher Ms. Mary. All had a wonderful day. Children went boating on paddle boats, played on the swings and slides and even tried to read the names of the trees in the botanical garden. The park was alive with plenty of activity. The other outdoor tour activity was for students of Preparatory grade to grade III. They all went on a tour of the Industrial Estate at Corlim in Old Goa. They visited two factories that interested them the most. One was the stationery and school supplies manufacturing unit of Faber Castell and the other was Funskool. At one they saw the manufacturing of items they use everyday at school like crayons, pencils, erasers, sketch pens etc and at the other they witnessed the assembling of sand dials and some toys. They were spellbound by art of the workers who were putting together toy trucks. They were accompanied by class teachers and Philip and Sue Sleigh.
Two major competitions were held this month. One was the spelling Bee and the other was the singing contest. Spelling Bee was held over two days as the number of participants was large. Each class in groups of four took part according to their houses. The fiercely fought contest was won by group Jupiter. 16 students found themselves in the finals of the singing contest. The preliminary rounds were held earlier in four categories, namely, Intermediate, Sub-junior, Junior and Senior. The final was an event to remember and a treat to our ears. Jupiter group won again but were very closely followed by the other three groups.
The second term examination began on 18th and ended on 29th February. All the students were deep in their books expecting to do well. In the midst of the exams a day was taken to say farewell to Philip and Sue Sleigh. This lovely couple helped in the school and trained the teachers in various aspects of teaching. They were with us for three months and had become a part of us. It was very sad for all to say goodbye to them. We all have learnt so much from these two lovely people and we thank them. We hope they will come back someday. The month ended with a 3 hour session for senior students on career guidance. It was held by ICFAI Goa and the faculty highlighted the importance of selecting the best career and pursuing the same with determination. The students had a wonderful time of interaction so much so that the faculty said that not even in the formal schools did they get such positive feedback and interaction.
The school has planned many activities for the month of March. In all probability the coming month will be the last month of the scholastic year. The final review will also take place. Other extra-curricular activities include School picnic, card design and the Open day. The prelims for the students are also scheduled for the students of standard X & XII. The children will leave for their summer vacation, however; the students answering board examination will continue till April.
