Sharon celebrates birthday of her student Leanne and her ‘Child’ Pooja
The month and year began with a circus show at Mapusa. All our girls and staff went to witness the various acts in the Golden Circus. They were specially amazed at the girl who did the trick with countless rings around her body. Jim and Elaine sponsored the show and the children thanked them for a lovely time. Schools reopened and so the girls were back to their routine after a great Christmas season. They began studying for their exams that are fast approaching. The mock fire drill was conducted, internal audit carried out and we also had a new addition to our Home this month. Jennifer became the newest addition to RH. Presently we have 53 girls residing here.
Many of our girls went to doctors and hospitals this month. We thank Lucracia for being a great help in taking them for treatment. Some of the girls who needed treatment were Shilpa, Dilshad, Priya, Kalawati, Gayatri, Priya, Saku, Yogita and Prema. We are glad that there was nothing serious and they are all back to normal. Priyanka needed hospitalization for a few days due to acute abdominal pain. She has since recovered from these and is back with us. All staff and girls were given deworming tablets.
Our acting In-Charge Millian and our cook have both been transferred to Stepping Stones Shelter in Margao as they were needed there. In their place we now have Lidiya as the In-Charge and Demava who cooks for us. The bigger girls and Prefects are a great help and our girls take care of themselves, so they do not need too much supervision. The Home ran smoothly for the month.
The highlight of the month was a grand party by Sharon Woodcock.
The visitors this month were aplenty. Apart from Jim and Elaine who visited regularly we also had an Inspector from the Women and Child welfare Board who was so impressed with our work that she has promised to come and visit regularly. A couple of Nuns from Parra also spent time here learning and inquiring on care giving. Pastor Matthew and Anitamother came in with Pastor Michael Whittle from the
January drew to a close with birthday celebration of 5 girls. Their friends sang for them and the birthday cake was cut. The party was enjoyed by all. Lucracia took photographs of the celebrations. Even though January has passed by the Christmas spirit is still alive in the Home. We hope the coming months are even better. We pray our children will do great in their studies and other activities. We also hope we are directed by God to help as many young girls as we possibly can who are at risk and need our assistance, love and understanding. We hope we can make a positive difference in their lives and future.
