December is always a month when there is too much to do and too little time. It was no different this year either. There were loads of activities and there never seems to be enough time to do it all. The first half of the month was spent in making cards for sponsors, well wishers and friends. Later came school activities. The beach outings and church activities continued with children taking active part. Then all of a sudden Christmas was here. December as a very busy month has lived up to its reputation.

December 3rd was the class days of grade VII and X and all the girls were taking part in some activity or another. All the children participated and were quite happy with the occasion. On the next day some of the bigger girls went to the National Institute of Oceanography as part of their study tour on Science and Technology. They had a great time there and were amazed at the various apparatus on display. Two of our formal girls Manjula and Sharu participated in a sports event at Peddem ground. Sharu did us proud by winning the 100 mts and the 400 mts races. Sharu and Manjula were also members of the winning 4×400 mts relay team. Sharu was declared the Champion of the sports meet. The boys of VH who were part of serenading came here to practice along with Joseph. This year our children went to some classy establishments like the Taj Hotels and the Marriot Goa. They made a great impression wherever they went.

We at the Home had a month free from medical emergencies. Except for the minor fever and cold all the girls enjoyed perfect health. Shilpa joined us for Christmas and will be in our midst till the new year. The girls who are members of the Red Cross went around the village collecting funds for the Indian Red Cross Society. Many of our girls went to many a venue to perform. The Don Bosco School at Panaji held their Bal Mela (Child Fair) and our girls were there to perform on stage. They performed a dance called Mera Desh Rangeela which was enjoyed by all gathered.

The Home looks beautiful with the decorative lights and a Nativity crib adorns the lawns of Rainbow House. The 20th saw all the children coming together for a grand Children’s Christmas Party at the school grounds. The lovely setting was very fitting for the occasion. The girls enjoyed the African fire dancers act and also the comical magic show. Our girls performed a dance on stage and were simply excellent. They took part in various games held at the event and also won prizes. The food was excellent and plenty. The soft drinks and ice cream made the party worth remembering. Everybody was wishing each other for Christmas. This party truly brought out the Christmas spirit.

The girls of Rainbow House had very special entertainment for two nights in running. The villagers came and sang Christmas carols for the girls. The next day the Palotine troupe serenading came and sang for the girls and it was a very special time for all. Christmas Day was special and the girls had plenty of visitors coming in with sweets and Christmas cheer. In the evening Pastor Matthew came in with his wife Julia and Anitamother and distributed gifts to the girls. Everyone had a memorable day.

This year has almost come to an end and we thank God for His hand of protection on our girls. We hope we can be the bearer of good things to all the children who are out on the streets searching for a childhood they can be happy with. We hope and pray that we will be able to reach many more children in the coming year. We also wish to thank everyone who has assisted us and wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2008.
