Come to THE RAILWAY HOTEL on FRIDAY 23rd JULY 8.30pm 1am – entry £3 where David Simon in collaboration with Southend YMCA will host a CHARITY MUSIC EVENT to raise money to send volunteers to help this charity who rescue Street Children from lives of homelessness, neglect, prostitution and deliberate harming to make them ‘more effective’ beggars.
Often the sole wage earners, these Indian Street Children endure lives of suffering, hardship and cruelty and without the amazing work carried out by the devoted El Shaddai team, the outlook for their little lives would remain bleak. Home is often no more than a filthy blanket on a rubbish dump and if there are parents around, instead of love and kindness the children often experience abuse, beatings and fear.
However, El Shaddai is a light in the darkness in these children’s lives and the Rescue Centres provides medical care, education and offers hope, loving care and a future to these youngsters.
The charity relies on donations and volunteers to help at the Centres but finding the flight money to go to India is not always easy.
So onn July 23rd at Southend’s Railway Hotel, the four young Southend YMCA volunteers will take to the stage to help raise money to send volunteers to India to work at the El Shaddai Centres.
David Simon, former Channel 4 star, Sheila Lord, Khalil Barazi and DJ ‘Agreeable’ James Cox will perform. Following the acclaimed launch of his debut album ‘Collision’ David Simon is also releasing a single aptly titled ‘It’s not About Me’ which is available for pre order from http://www.play.com/Music/MP3-Download-Track/4-/15751061/It-Not-About-Me/Product.html and http://dittomusic.dloadshop.com/shop.asp?artistid=689 also direct from itunes from July 25th Every penny from the 'single' sales will help fund volunteers to go to India.
Southend YMCA Executive Director Syrie Cox said, “We’ve a long history of discovering talented and creative young people and this is another example of a really pro-active group of volunteers. We are delighted to be working with such an enterprising group of young people who’ve organised this event and want to reach out to others less fortunate than themselves. It’s a really worthy cause and I hope lots of people will come along to enjoy the evening.”
El Shaddai's co-founder Anita Edgar added, “I really want to encourage people to download this single as the more copies it sells, the more volunteers can come and help. Volunteering here is not the sad experience some people may think. It’s a happy place and the children always love having new people to play with them and help with their schooling. A really big thank you to all the young people at Southend YMCA for organisng this event.
Southend YMCA is now on Facebook.
