A total of 116 different children visited the shelter in the last month with a daily average of about 55 children. Since the reopening of the schools on 7th June 2010, 30 new children have been admitted in the shelter. Non-formal education is being provided for 9 children on a daily basis during morning time and they do colouring, puzzles and other activities during free time.
We are also providing daily tuitions to all our school going children. Stationery, raincoats, sandals and school bags were distributed to the children who attend school.
Our Field Workers, Amit & Lokesh, visited a few slums and taught the slum-dwellers about the services offered by Asha Deep and general information on hygiene. Yvonne & Merlyn gave tuitions to the school going children while Jacinta conducted non-formal education for the children.
We are thankful to our supporters and volunteers. Kirti Gaonkar, or Dadima as she is fondly called, visited the shelter daily and assisted with the chores that needed to be done. Bina D’Souza donated biscuits and sponsored food and snacks for the children on her daughter’s birthday. Franky of Fatima Bakery donated bread for all the children twice a week.
As the slum families have started returning we are hoping to expand our reach to more areas and more children in the coming days.
